Privacy Policy

1. What this policy covers

This policy explains what personal data OnlineJobsAfrica ("we", "us") collects when you use onlinejobsafrica.com, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to talent (workers), employers, and visitors. By using the platform you agree to this policy and to our Terms of Service.

2. Data we collect

  • Account data — name, email address, and a hashed password (we never store passwords in plain text).
  • Talent profile data — the information you choose to publish: headline, bio, skills, experience, education, country, rate, availability, and optional contact details such as phone or LinkedIn.
  • Employer billing data — subscription status and plan. Card details are collected and stored by our payment processor, Stripe; we never see or store full card numbers.
  • Identity verification data— if a worker chooses to verify, the ID document and selfie are collected and processed by Stripe Identity under Stripe's own privacy terms. We store only the outcome (verified or not) — never the documents or biometric data themselves.
  • Messages — conversations sent through the platform, so we can deliver them and enforce our terms.
  • Hire requests — if you use the guided hire flow, the role description, category, timeline, and email you provide.
  • Usage data — basic technical logs (such as IP address and request data) generated by operating the service, and profile view counts.

3. How we use your data

  • to operate the marketplace — accounts, profiles, search, messaging, and subscriptions;
  • to display talent profiles to employers and other visitors (see section 4);
  • to process payments and manage subscriptions through Stripe;
  • to keep the platform safe — preventing fraud, spam, and abuse, and enforcing our terms;
  • to respond to support requests and send service-related emails;
  • to comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4. Profile visibility — what is public

Published talent profiles are public by design: anyone, including search engines, can see your name, photo, headline, bio, skills, country, rate, and availability. Your direct contact details (email, phone, LinkedIn) are not public — they are shown only to employers with an active paid subscription. You can unpublish your profile at any time from your dashboard, which removes it from the public directory.

5. Who we share data with

  • Stripe — payment processing and identity verification.
  • Infrastructure providers — our hosting and database providers (currently Vercel and Neon), which store data on servers in the United States.
  • Subscribed employers — your contact details, if you are a published worker, as described in section 4.
  • Legal requirements — when required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

6. Cookies

We currently use only essential cookies: a session cookie that keeps you signed in and security cookies that protect forms from cross-site attacks. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If we add analytics in the future, we will update this policy.

7. Data retention

We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain records for legal, billing, or security reasons. Messages may persist in the other participant's conversation history.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and the Nigeria Data Protection Act), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can edit most data directly from your dashboard. For anything else — including account deletion — email hello@onlinejobsafrica.com and we will respond within 30 days.

9. Security

We protect your data with industry-standard measures: all traffic is encrypted with HTTPS, passwords are hashed with bcrypt, access to contact details is gated, and our APIs enforce authentication, rate limiting, and same-origin checks. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

10. International transfers

We serve users across Africa and worldwide, and data is stored in the United States by the providers listed in section 5. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards offered by those providers for cross-border transfers.

11. Children

The platform is for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; if we learn we have, we will delete it.

12. Changes and contact

We may update this policy from time to time and will note the date of the latest revision at the top of this page. Material changes will be announced on the platform or by email. Questions or requests: hello@onlinejobsafrica.com.
